Picking the Right Way to Communicate

In my career, I’ve learned that not every communication channel works the same. Some deliver results almost instantly, while others make you wait and wonder if the message even reached the right people.

For me, social media reels have been the most effective tool when it comes to getting promotions or breaking news out quickly. When I worked in the casino industry, every month came with a fresh set of promotions we needed to advertise. Posting reels on Instagram or Facebook gave us immediate traction. Guests would literally come in and say, “I saw your post online and wanted to check it out.” That direct response was proof that the message hit the mark.

On the flip side, TV commercials and radio slots were hit or miss. They had their place, but the timing always felt tight. With only 12 to 30 seconds to explain a promotion, it was easy for important details to get lost. Another challenge was that results were harder to measure. We didn’t always know if a guest came in because of something they heard on the radio or saw on TV. Sometimes the response lagged, and other times it felt like there was no clear way to connect the dots.

Looking back, what stands out is how important it is to match the message with the medium. If the goal is quick interaction and measurable results, social media almost always wins. Traditional channels like TV and radio can still help with awareness, but they don’t give that same level of instant feedback or engagement. For industries that move fast, like casinos, social media has proven to be the most reliable way to connect with people.
